Updates on school closures will be posted on the Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE)'s website (www.hawaiipublicschools.org) and social media accounts -- Twitter (@HIDOE808) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/HIDOE808/).
UPDATE AS OF AUGUST 22, 2018: Hawaii public schools and HIDOE offices statewide will be closed Thursday and Friday as Hurricane Lane approaches the islands as a powerful Category 4 storm. This will give our school communities time to prepare -- the storm is anticipated to impact Oahu Thursday evening and Kauai on Friday -- and allow counties to stand up emergency shelters.
HIDOE schools and offices will reopen on Monday, August 27, 2018 unless otherwise noted.
Honolulu County will open shelters at 10:00 am Thursday, August 23, 2018.
Effective Wednesday, August 22nd, all after-school activities and programs including inter-scholastic athletic events are canceled for the rest of this week and will resume on Monday, August 27th. All school-related inter-island travel this week will be cancelled as well.
Families are urged to have an emergency plan in place and to prepare ahead.
Please see the HIDOE memo below regarding their monitoring of hurricane Lane.
