What we do: 
Leeward Support Services Section in Nanakuli-Waianae primarily supports and collaborates with the complex area schools in the priority area of special education. They trains NW's special education support staff and field questions from them that are related to the Individual with Disabilities Education improvement Act (IDEIA), Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 60-Provisions of a Free and Appropriate Education for Students with Disabilities, Chapter 61, the electronic Comprehensive Student Support System (eCSSS), and evidence-based teaching practices.
 
We assist NW schools in the following areas (including but not limited to):
  • Initial and Re-evaluation Process
  • Standards-Based Individualized Education Plan (IEP) writing and implementation
  • Attending Peer Reviews, SFTs, IEP, Specialty Area (AT, Post-High) Meetings
  • Induction and Mentoring of New SpEd teachers
  • HHI Funding Requests
  • Homebound
  • Specially Designed Instruction
  • Evidence-Based Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities  
  • Adhering to IDEIA and Chapter 60 Timelines  
  • Data collection and Progress Monitoring of Students' Academic and Functional Levels
